In plain language
The short version
- You can read everything on this site without creating an account.
- We do not ask for your name, address, phone number, or Social Security number, and you should never send them to us.
- Our contact form does not transmit data to a server. It prepares an email in your own email application, which you then choose to send.
- The only information stored in your browser is your cookie choice and, if you use it, your saved checklist progress.
- No third-party analytics or advertising tags are loaded unless you allow them, and you can change that choice at any time.
Who is responsible for your data
Senior Fraud Guide ("we", "us") is an independent educational publisher based in the United States. For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, and for U.S. state privacy laws, we act as the controller of any personal information described in this policy.

What we collect and when
Information you choose to send us
If you use the contact form and send the prepared email, we receive whatever your email application sends: your name or initials, your email address, the topic you selected, and your message. We use it only to reply and, if relevant, to correct or improve our content. We keep ordinary correspondence for up to 24 months so that we can keep a record of corrections and repeat questions.
Please do not send account numbers, passwords, one-time security codes, or your Social Security number. If such information arrives, we delete it and do not use it for any purpose.
Information stored on your device
This website saves your cookie decision in your browser's local storage, and it saves your checklist progress if you tick items on the checklist page. Both are held on your own device and are not transmitted to us. Checklist progress is saved when you tick an item, and only in the browser you are using. You can delete them at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer or the "Clear my saved steps" button on the checklist page.
Technical information
Like any website, our hosting provider processes requests that necessarily include an IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser type. This is used to deliver pages and to protect the site against abuse, and it is retained for a short period for security purposes.
What we do not collect
- We do not require registration, logins, or accounts.
- We do not ask for or store payment details.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
- We do not build profiles of your personal circumstances or health.
- We do not sell personal information.
Why we use information
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Answering your message | Your request, and our legitimate interest in responding to readers | Up to 24 months |
| Keeping the site secure and available | Legitimate interest in protecting our service | Short-lived server logs |
| Remembering your cookie choice | Necessary for the feature you requested | Up to 12 months |
| Saving checklist progress on your device | Your action when you tick a box; stored only on your device | Until you clear it |
| Analytics and advertising | Consent, where you have given it | See the cookie section below |
International transfers
We are based in the United States, and information you send us is processed there. If you contact us from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, your information is transferred outside those regions. We rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses offered by our service providers, and we keep the amount of information transferred to the minimum needed to answer your message.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding personal information we hold about you:
- The right to be informed about how your information is used.
- The right of access to the information we hold about you.
- The right to correct inaccurate information.
- The right to deletion, subject to legal retention obligations.
- The right to restrict or object to processing.
- The right to data portability.
- The right to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing.
- The right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Write to hello.seniorfraudguide@gmail.com to exercise a right. We respond to requests within 30 days, or within the shorter period required by local law. We may ask for a name and the email address you wrote from, so that we can locate the correspondence, but we will not ask for identity documents unless there is a genuine doubt about who is making the request.
California and other U.S. state residents
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not knowingly process the information of consumers under 16 for advertising. You have the right to know what we collect, to request deletion or correction, and to designate an authorised agent to act for you. Exercise these rights at the email address above.
Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to your local supervisory authority. In the United Kingdom this is the Information Commissioner's Office; in the European Union it is the data protection authority of your country of residence; in the United States it is typically your state attorney general's consumer protection office.
Security and retention
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to correspondence is limited to people who need it to answer questions or correct content. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we keep collected data to the minimum required and delete it when the retention period described above ends.
The checklist feature stores progress only in your browser. Clearing your browser data, changing device, or using private browsing means that progress will not carry over.
External links and embedded content
Our pages link to government agencies, consumer organisations, and other informational websites. Clicking such a link takes you to a site we do not control and whose privacy practices may differ from ours. We do not receive information about which links you click, and we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party sites. Read their policies before sharing personal information.
We do not embed videos, maps, fonts, or social media widgets that load content from third-party servers. This is a deliberate choice: embedded content is a common way for third parties to set cookies without a visitor's knowledge.
Children
This website is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes that a child has sent us personal information, they can write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy at least once a year and whenever the tools on the site change. Material changes are reflected in the "last updated" date at the top of this page, and where the change concerns cookies or advertising we will ask for your choice again.
Version history
- November 3, 2026: checklist feature added; cookie categories clarified; reporting links updated.
- February 18, 2026: first publication.
